Detachment

Detach means "to unfasten and separate; disengage" per dictionary.com.

Words like dissociate, separate, sever, free and withdraw represent the meaning of detach.

It feels to me that many of us are being asked to do just this.  Detach from things that are hurtful and feel hurtful.   Detach from thoughts that do not uplift us and support us.  Detach from habits that no longer serve us as they were created to help us through some hardships and/or challenges in the past.  Perhaps, some habits were necessary for survival.  These habits and ways are no longer needed and, maybe, even hurtful.

As we begin anew and welcome change and believe in and create new paths out of necessity and desire, we must first detach and let go of certain things, thoughts, and possibly people, to open space for what is to come.

These past several days I have witnessed and seen lizards in their natural habitat.  Not the little geckos that run all around Florida, but pretty good size lizards.

I looked up 'lizard' in the "Animal Speak Book" by Ted Andrews which talks about spiritual meaning and lessons from animals that roam our Earth.

"One of the most significant characteristics of some lizards and their claim to fame is their ability of the tail to come off.  A predator may grab for it, its paw landing upon the tail, only to be surprised as the tail breaks off and the lizard scampers to freedom.  The lizard then begins the process of growing another in its place.  This detachment is also part of what lizard can teach.  They can help us to become more detached in life to survive.  Sometimes it is necessary to separate ourselves or part of ourselves from others to be able to do the things we most desire to do.  The lizard helps us to awaken that ability for objective detachment so that it can occur with the least amount of difficulty.  Lizard can show up to help us break from the past.  It may even indicate a need to explore new realms and follow your own impulses before you get swallowed up in what is not beneficial for you."

May you follow your own impulses and detach from what no longer serves you.  Surrender as willingly as possible to the truth of your inner knowing.  It is time to live our inside out just because it feels right and comes from our own experiences, instinct and guidance letting go of the outside world's experiences and guidance.  You are your greatest teacher, healer, and guide and it is from this that your ability to create your best life forward comes.
