Foodie

I read this and felt like it was important to share.  I'm thinking most of us, at one time or another, could be reminded of this.  This author wrote it beautifully, so I'm excited to post it.

Happy Eating!

"Skill Builder:  Silencing the Inner Food Critic with Compassion"

"Practice speaking to yourself in an sympathetic, uplifting manner.  Gentle, positive inner speech is essential for any kind of mindful behavior, including eating.  Be compassionate with yourself.  Negative verbal commentary inhibits your ability to taste, smell, and enjoy your food in the moment.  When you focus more on your critical thoughts than on the experience of eating, you are eating mindlessly.  Truly listen to what you tell yourself, and examine how it influences what you eat.  Buddha said, "Praise and blame, gain and loss, pleasure and sorrow come and go like the wind.  To be happy, rest like a giant tree, in the midst of them all."

Sit still and turn your mind inward.  Center yourself.  Think about a recent difficult encounter with food.  When your inner food critic speaks, what does it say?  Is it yelling, whispering, nudging, urging, or sarcastic?  Allow the thoughts to arise and just take note of them.  Don't judge yourself for the thoughts but simply acknowledge the content and tone of your speech to yourself.  Be mindful of the negative bodily and emotional impact of the words.  Think about the way toxic, harsh inner speech distracts from your ability to taste and enjoy the food that sustains you."

From the book "eating mindfully" by Susan Albers, psy.d.

May you rest like a giant tree in the midst of all that runs through you and around you.

My Beloved Durby

Durby is gone.  He left beautifully and wasn't afraid at all.   I kissed him and hugged him and thanked him.  He was truly one of my greatest joys.

I fed him his meal, and a bagel bite and chocolate ice cream.  He kissed me and laid his head on me.

I am grateful for the people who helped me to help him not to suffer.  I am grateful I didn't have to watch him struggle and hurt and deteriorate.

My mind cannot get around what just happened and I know it did.  My heart aches that I won't have him here in my surroundings.  I do have him as part of me forever.

May you know even when life is hard, beauty abounds.  May you experience the beauty in any state of being.

Durby, one of my greatest joys.  Thank you.

Doorways and Friends

I'm not sure I can breathe just now, so I went to the tarot cards and these are the two cards I picked.  It's less than 22 hours time I have with my Durby and I'm sad and uncertain inside; fearful of feeling what's to come.

"The High Priestess"
"Tarot Wisdom - Two is the number of openings, because two halves create a space between each other, as in the image of a doorway.  The High Priestess opens the door for us to probe the mysteries that lie beneath our experiences.  She encourages us to look for what is hidden - to read between the lines, to find subtleties and nuances.  This is the card of intuition, dreams and esoteric knowledge."

"Three of Vessels"
"Tarot Wisdom - Friendship is the central theme here.  The message points to a support group.  Everyone carries equal weight so that no one person is burdened more than the others.  Know that support comes to you when it is needed.  The Three Fates suggest either support that has been given in the past, is being given in the present, or might be coming in the future.  The fertility aspect of the Triple Goddess might be germane to a reading - like being a supportive midwife at birth."

Tarot cards and wisdom from the book "The Alchemical Tarot" by Rosemary Ellen Guiley and Robert M. Place

May you believe in your own strength and may you know that this inner strength will carry you forward always.  May you know there is always support available and new doorways to walk through.

Be U rself

"I think the only thing in life you can ever be is yourself because it's the only thing that someone else can't be."  Kirstie Alley on Dancing With the Stars, USA

May you be yourself today and everyday.

Last Few Days

I'm having my last few days with my wonderful Australian Shepherd.  The joy that he has brought into my life and the lives of many who come to visit.  Durby would always greet everyone and he has been loved by many.

I'm watching him suffer to get up and walk.  I'm watching him as he shows signs of confusion and just wanting to be around me and near me.

I'm hugging him and kissing him.  I am thanking him for the gift of himself.  I am thanking him for giving me one of the greatest joys I have known thus far.

This feels impossible at moments.  And, at other times, I am grateful.  Grateful to have had him in my life 13 years; grateful that he does not have to suffer long.  Grateful to have options to hold him and let him go.

Life is hard to understand for me at times.  The joy I accept much more freely than the pain.  Yet, without pain, would I truly know what joy feels like.   I do not know.

I only know that there is a gamut of feelings/emotions/thoughts/actions to live through and I want to accept and embrace them as best as I can.

May you embrace the gamut of your life as best as you can.

Guilt

I need to share this again.   Guilt is about when I do something on purpose to hurt someone or something.  I will not allow myself to feel guilty unless I do something on purpose to hurt someone or something.

May you know the difference when to feel guilt and when not to feel guilt and may you not have the reason to feel guilty too often at all.

Mmmmmm and Ha.

Not Quite as Planned

Well, the dentist staff and I survived my appointment!  I still have one more appointment in a few weeks.   Getting the mold was the hardest of all.  Fitting the mold piece in my mouth - well, it happened after several tries.   So, all is good.

My beautiful smile is on it's way.  My one tooth that was pulled and a few caps will be replaced and I'll be able to chew and smile.  What a bargain!

I don't know how wonderful it is to have things until I don't have them.   Think about it... electricity, mobility, nice weather and teeth.....  How is life different without such things.

More to be grateful for!   How lucky I am.

May you know how lucky you are to have 'things' that make your life easier, happier, fuller and 'happening'.
